Cisco 8832 phone not connecting, no IP, no CDP, no MAC

There is an issue with specific firmware for Cisco 8832 phones.
The phone comes with 12.0.xxxSR3 or something like that, and it connects to switch but it doesn't appear in CDP neighbors.
If you use the 12.0.xxxx (No SR version) in CUCM, then the phone can't connect and doesn't appear anywhere in the switch (even in MAC address table), at this state shows can't get any IP etc.

You have to use 12.1xxx firmware for this phone to operate properly.

To recover from the situation and upgrade to 12.1 you have to do the following

  1. Unplug the phone
  2. Wait for 10 seconds
  3. Hold the * (asterisk) key while plugging the phone back
  4. When the LED light turns off release the * and type 123456789*0#
The phone should boot with 12.0.xxxxSR version and it would get an IP so you can upgrade it to 12.1 and from there it would operate normally.
